CAROLYN GIARDINA

Carolyn Giardina is an award-winning journalist and author who has devoted her career to covering the art and science of entertainment.

Having held editorial roles at publications such as The Hollywood Reporter, Variety and SHOOT, her authoritative coverage has spanned entertainment technology and the creative arts including all areas of production and postproduction. At The Hollywood Reporter, she moderated the popular Cinematographer and Animation Roundtables, and launched and hosted its Behind the Screen podcast series.

She’s been recognized with American Cinema Editors’ Robert Wise Award, for journalistic contributions to film editing; International Cinematographers Guild’s Technicolor William A. Fraker Award, for journalistic contributions to cinematography; Women in Technology Hollywood’s Leadership Award; and Advanced Imaging Society’s Distinguished Leadership Award.

Additionally, Carolyn is a lecturer at Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film & Media Arts and co-authored a book about stereoscopic 3D filmmaking, “Exploring 3D” (Focal Press, 2012).

Carolyn has long been an active member of the community—a frequent conference speaker/moderator who has served on numerous industry boards, committees and award juries. That includes nearly two decades on the HPA Board of Directors, during which time she co-founded and was founding chair of the HPA Awards.
